Hyderabad: Irrigation and civil supplies minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday said the civil supplies department is all set to achieve record procurement of paddy from the current kharif crop as farmers produced a whopping 1.53 crore metric tonne of paddy this season.
Of the total, the govt is expecting to procure anywhere between 70 lakh metric tonne to 90 lakh metric tonne of both the coarse and fine varieties of paddy.
“This record production of paddy was achieved without a single drop of water being released from Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages of Kaleshwaram for irrigation for the kharif crop.
“As of Nov 23, over 21.73 lakh metric tonne (LMT) of paddy, valued at 5,040 crore was procured. Over 7,990 procurement centres are operational this year — an increase of 2,447 centres compared to last year’s 5,543 — ensuring better access for farmers,” the minister said.
