Vijayawada Airport Expansion: Farmers Finally Receive Destined Returnable Plots | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: In a significant development, farmers who gave their lands for the expansion of Vijayawada international airport, under the land pooling scheme, finally received their returnable plots. The allotment was conducted through an e-lottery program held at the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) headquarters on Monday, following directives from the CRDA commissioner.
Special deputy collector (land administration) BLN Rajakumari said that 24 residential plots and 15 commercial plots were allotted to 20 farmers who contributed 12.53 acres of land for the expansion of Gannavaram airport in 2016. The allocation was carried out transparently through the e-lottery system, in the presence of the farmers.
The farmers, including prominent film producer C Ashwinidutt, faced prolonged delays in compensation due to changes in govt policies and uncertainties surrounding the Amaravati capital project. Despite giving their lands through land pooling system before 2019, they encountered significant delays in receiving their due compensation. Some of the farmers even approached the high court. The cases are still pending.
Meanwhile, the situation took a positive turn under the alliance govt, which reaffirmed its commitment to Amaravati as the state capital. The CRDA took steps to allocate returnable plots to the farmers, resolving a long standing grievance. To aid the farmers, special GIS staff and village surveyors were deployed in order to help identify geographical locations of their allotted plots. Govt also established nine registration centres in Amaravati to facilitate the registration process. Farmers were advised to complete the registration within a week after receiving their provisional certificates.
The e-lottery program was attended by AP CRDA additional commissioner G Suryasai Praveen Chand IAS, special deputy collector BLN Rajakumari, and other officials.
