Vijayawada: Retired additional superintendent of police (ASP) Vijay Paul was arrested by Prakasam district superintendent of police (SP) A R Damodar on Tuesday after being called for questioning in connection with a case involving allegations of torture during the previous YSRCP regime.
The case also involves the interrogation of Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, the current deputy speaker of the Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly, who is a key complainant in the matter.
Vijay Paul, who was previously questioned by the police on July 13, denied any knowledge of the allegations at the time, stating, “I don’t know anything. I don’t remember.” His appearance on Tuesday follows a setback in the legal proceedings, as the Supreme Court dismissed his special leave petition against the AP High Court’s September 24 decision to reject his anticipatory bail plea.
Vijay Paul’s questioning focused on his role and potential involvement in the alleged torture of Raghu Ramakrishna Raju. The case has drawn significant public attention due to the political and human rights implications. Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, known for his vocal criticism of the YSRCP, previously alleged that he was subjected to physical and mental harassment during his detention in 2021, claiming it was politically motivated.
