Delhi Capitals’ (DC) first few home matches in IPL 2024 will not be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The Arun Jaitley Stadium has been a common venue in IPL, but DC have been forced to shift their home venue to the Dr YS Rajashekar Reddy ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

So far the BCCI has only released the
schedule for first 15 days of IPL 2024 due to the tournament clashing with the General Elections. The full IPL 2024 schedule will be released after General Elections schedule is declared.

Delhi Capitals are scheduled to play five matches in the first 15 days with their campaign starting against Punjab Kings at Mohali. Out of the five matches, two of them are at home against Chennai super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders and will be played at Visakhapatnam, the BCCI confirmed.

“Having chosen to play their first two home matches in Visakhapatnam, the Delhi Capitals will first host the Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, 31st March in the port city and will then face the Kolkata Knight Riders at the same venue on Wednesday, 3rd April,” BCCI said in a statement.

While fans were wondering why Delhi Capitals had to moved base to Visakhapatnam, co-owner Parth Jindal gave a clarification on X (formerly Twitter). As per Jindal, DC have decided to skip Arun Jaitley Stadium at the start to allow the ground recover from the wear and tear it may suffer during hosting the Women’s Premier League (WPL) fixtures.

He also confirmed that DC’s remaining home games will be played in Delhi.

“Dear Delhi fans – as the @wplt20 will be hosting 11 games at the Kotla – the Kotla will not be available for practice for the men’s team and we need to give the ground and the pitches a short break so that it can recover for the IPL – as a result we @DelhiCapitals took the decision to move only the first two games to Vizag. We can’t wait to get back to the Kotla and will be playing the rest of the home games at the Kotla,” he wrote on X.

11 WPL 2024 matches from 5 to 17 March are scheduled to take place at Delhi.
