Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday said the demand of Congress to conduct a nationwide caste census will be the third mass movement for social justice in the country.
Speaking at the Samvidhan Raksha Abhiyan meeting organised by AICC in Delhi on the occasion of Constitution Day, the CM said: “The first phase of social justice began with Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, marked by landmark initiatives like reservations for SCs and STs and nationalisation of banks.
During Rajiv Gandhi’s term, voting rights were given from the age of 18. The second phase of social justice 2.0 was achieved with Mandal Commission to address caste-based inequalities. Social justice 3.0 started under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi with the demand for a caste census.”
He said Rahul Gandhi is the torchbearer of the social justice 3.0 movement. Social justice 3.0 began by launching the caste survey in Telangana under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.
Following their footsteps, the Telangana govt launched the social, economic, and caste surveys, 92 per cent of which has already been completed, he claimed.
As per Rahul Gandhi’s principle of ‘Jitni bhagidari, utni hisse dari (equal share for equal population)’, the Congress govt in Telangana will strictly implement this principle once the survey is completed, he said. He criticised BJP, accusing it of undermining the Constitution. The Constitution is in danger in the country for the last 10 years, Revanth said.
