It has been nearly two years since we saw the upcoming Tata Sierra SUV in its concept avatar at the 2023 Auto Expo. Now, the SUV has taken its final shape and is ready to hit the roads in the second half of 2025. Initially, it will be offered with an electric powertrain, which will be followed by its ICE (internal combustion engine) version. Interestingly, the Sierra EV will be based on the Acti.ev platform, while its petrol and diesel versions will be underpinned by the all-new ATLAS (Adaptive Tech Forward Lifestyle) architecture.
A Brief on Acti.ev and ATLAS Platforms
The Acti.ev architecture, which also underpins the Curvv EV and Punch EV, is a pure EV platform built on four layers. Tata Motors has confirmed that it features an optimized battery pack design with advanced cells and supports multiple body styles. Upcoming Tata EVs based on the Acti.ev platform will offer ranges between 300km and 600km and will support charging up to 11kW with AC and 150kW with DC fast charging. It has a flat floor without a transmission tunnel, along with a frunk (front trunk) for additional storage, maximizing cabin space. These EVs will also come equipped with Level 2 ADAS capabilities.
The ATLAS platform is compatible with various body styles, sizes, and segments while also supporting future technologies with an advanced electric architecture and cloud-based systems. Speculation suggests that Tata’s top-selling Nexon SUV might switch to the ATLAS platform with its next-generation update. This architecture features a continuous framework that prevents abrupt changes in load paths and ensures that impact loads are evenly distributed across multiple paths in the event of an accident or crash.
Powertrain Details
The forthcoming Tata Sierra EV is expected to come with both single-motor and dual-motor layout options. Its range is estimated to be around 500km on a full charge. This electric SUV might also offer an optional AWD system. Exact battery details, range, and power figures are yet to be revealed. Meanwhile, the Sierra’s petrol and diesel models will feature Tata’s all-new 1.5L Hyperion turbo engine and a 2.0L diesel engine, respectively.
What Do Leaked Images Reveal?
Recently, the first images of the production-ready 2025 Tata Sierra SUV emerged online. The new model retains most of its design elements from the concept, which is undoubtedly a positive move. The black C and D-pillars evoke the original Sierra, while its large rear glass area and curvy rear windows further enhance the resemblance. The tall stance, roof rails, large rear quarter glass, and an ‘EV’ badge on the front door have also been carried forward from the concept. The SUV features an upright and flatter nose, trapezoidal headlamp housings, large air dams, pronounced wheel arches, gloss black cladding around the body, and full-width LED taillamps.
