Vijayawada: Farmers from Peddakurapadu constituency have expressed their willingness to give land for the Amaravati railway line project, but only under the land pooling scheme (LPS) rather than traditional land acquisition. They want the state govt to allocate developed plots to them in the Amaravati capital city region in exchange for their lands.
Farmers from Karlapudi, Pedaparimi, Tadikonda, and Nidumukkala villages met municipal administration and urban development minister P Narayana on Thursday to present their demands, and cited the land pooling scheme used for Vijayawada airport in Gannavaram as a precedent.
Under the Amaravati railway line project, a 57-kilometre railway track would be laid connecting Errupalem in Khammam district to Amaravati in Guntur district. The Union govt has allocated Rs 245 crore for the project and set a four-year completion timeline, though the state govt aims to finish it within three years.
Land acquisition is required in Khammam district of Telangana, and NTR and Guntur districts of Andhra Pradesh, including 15 acres in Amaravati capital region for a railway station and other infrastructure.
The farmers, while reiterating their support for the project, insisted on the land pooling model to ensure fair compensation and future benefits.
Minister Narayana assured them that their concerns would be addressed. “Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu will take a final decision on this matter. The proposal will be discussed during the upcoming CRDA review meeting, and no injustice will be done to farmers,” he said.
