Hyderabad Businessman Arrested for Cheating 29 Engineering and MBBS Aspirants | Hyderabad News


Hyderabad: Multiple criminal cases were registered by Hyderabad’s Central Crime Station (CCS) against a businessman who duped at least 29 engineering and MBBS aspirants by failing to provide them admission in different colleges after collecting money.
The accused, Hema Rohith, who was operating his office at Srinagar Colony, came in touch with one of the victims, promising to block an MBBS seat in a private deemed university in Vizag.
Rohith allegedly took 15 lakh cash from the complainant. When he asked for a receipt, the accused evaded it, citing various reasons. Later, the accused stopped taking phone calls and failed to provide admission, leaving the student’s career at risk. “Initially, when the complainant wanted to give a cheque, the accused insisted on cash. Most of the transactions were done in cash,” police said.
Rohith allegedly took 12 lakh from another person with a promise to provide admission to a private engineering college in Hyderabad. Initially, the accused took 3 lakh in cash, and later the remaining money was collected. On one occasion, the student and his parent were taken to the college, made to wait, and additional money was sought. Learning that they were duped, the complainant insisted on a refund of the money paid. The accused returned 3.5 lakh, and for remaining money, issued cheques, which got dishonoured.
“During the investigation, police found that Rohith, committed a fraud of 73 lakh by collecting money from 29 persons. Some more victims are approaching police,” CCS officials said. So far, four separate FIRs were registered . Police registered a case against six accused, including Rohith.
