Hyderabad: Food safety officials conducted inspections at various restaurants in Hyderabad’s Lakdikapul area on November 26. At the establishments, they were shocked to find live cockroaches, expired food items, stagnant drain water, and leftover food being stored improperly. The unsanitary conditions raised serious concerns about hygiene and food safety practices in the area. The official X (formerly known as Twitter) account of the Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana, also shared a few images to substantiate their claims.

1. Badamiyan Kababs, Lakdikapul

On November 26, 2024, an inspection at Bademiyan Kababs in Lakdikapul revealed several violations of food safety norms. The restaurant failed to display a food licence, while cobwebs were found inside the kitchen. Improperly labelled food items were stored in the refrigerator, and essential records like pest control logs, medical fitness certificates, and water analysis reports were unavailable. Inspectors also discovered suspected synthetic food colours used in kababs and Chinese dishes, which were promptly discarded. Additionally, food handlers lacked basic hygiene practises such as wearing hair caps and gloves, and the premises were left open to the outside environment without insect-proof screens, posing contamination risks.

2. Shahi Dastarkhan, Lakdikapul

An inspection at Shahi Dastarkhan in Lakdikapul on November 26, 2024, uncovered multiple hygiene violations. The walls were greasy, the ceiling had shedding particles, and the flooring was patchy with broken tiles and stagnant water. The kitchen lacked insect-proof screens, allowing pests to enter, and live cockroaches were spotted on the first floor. Expired food items such as Mango Masala, Coconut Milk, and Keora water were found in storage and were immediately discarded. Additionally, drain water stagnation caused by food waste accumulation was observed, though the establishment maintained medical fitness certificates for its staff.

3. Khan-E-Khas, Lakdikapul

On November 26, 2024, a task force team conducted an inspection at Khan-E-Khas in Lakdikapul, revealing several food safety concerns. The establishment was found operating without a valid FSSAI licence. Leftover food from the previous day was discovered in the kitchen and discarded on the spot. Essential records, such as pest control logs, medical fitness certificates, and water analysis reports, were missing. The flooring was in poor condition with broken tiles and water stagnation. The premises lacked insect-proof screens to prevent pest entry, and the refrigerator was unhygienic, with both veg and non-veg items stored together. Rat fecal matter was found on shelves storing raw food materials, indicating a possible rat infestation. Additionally, the kitchen’s design did not provide sufficient working space for proper cleaning and food handling.
