Cyclone Fengal: NDRF 10th Battalion deploys four teams to Nellore, Chennai and Villupuram

The 10th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed four teams to Chennai, Villupuram and Nellore to take up rescue and rehabilitation operations in the wake of Cyclone Fengal.

“As many parts in Tamil Nadu, and a few districts in Andhra Pradesh, including Nellore, Tirupati and Chittoor, are receiving heavy rainfall, we have deployed teams to help the residents in the effected areas,” Battalion Commandant V.V.N. Prasanna Kumar told The Hindu on November 30 (Saturday).

The Battalion, operating from Kondapavuluru village in Krishna district, takes up rescue operations in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Puducherry (Yanam).

Instructions had been given to the Deputy Commandants, Assistant Commandants and inspectors to coordinate with the District Collectors, Joint Collectors, District Revenue Officers, and the Disaster Management Authority officials concerned, Mr. Prasanna Kumar said.

“The Regional Response Centre (RRC) in Visakhapatnam has been put on high alert. We are ready to deploy more teams to the effected areas,” he added.

The teams were equipped with life-saving equipment such as boats, ropes, flash lights, cutters, stretchers and other emergency material, Mr. Prasanna Kumar said.
