Kala Bhairava in unique form attracts devotees, celebrities


Issannapalli: The Kala Bhairava temple in Issannapally in Kamareddy district attracts thousands of devotees including celebrities. Devotees throng the temple in Issannapally village of Ramareddy mandal in Kamareddy district to get rid of family problems, health issues and sorcery (kshudra shaktulu) related issues.

After Kasi (Varanasi), it is said that the Kala Bhairava temple is found in only at Issannapally. The idol in a unique undressed form attracts devotees from two Telugu states, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and others.

Special festivals like Brahmotsavalu in Vaisakha month, Kala Bhairava birthday celebrations in Karthika month and Santatabhisekham in Margasira month are celebrated here.

Devotees believe that darshan of Kala Bhairava removes all Graha Doshas. Kaaludu means Yama and people feared knowing about Yama, but Kala Bhairava is a fierce form of Lord Shiva.

There is no specific evidence when the Kala Bhairava temple was constructed in Issannapally. It is believed that the existing idol was brought from Kasi and the bullock carts carrying the idol stuck up at Issannapally village, resulting in setting up of the idol here.

The Mula Bavi (open well) is famous in Kala Bhairava temple premises as devotees after taking bath there, directly visit the temple in wet clothes. A bath at Mula Bavi is said to help devotees.

Film stars Prabhas, Nani, Allari Naresh, AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s daughter in-law Nara Brahmani, hero Balakrishna’s wife Vasundhara, ministers, MLAs, MPs from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have visitd the Kala Bhairava temple.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Kala Bhairava temple executive officer Burla Prabhu Gupta said they provide all basic amenities to devotees. There is suitable accommodation for devotees for night stay, he said. During the visit of celebrities, we take all precautions to avoid inconvenience to devotees, he said.

Sudhakar, a devotee, said Ashta Bhairavas protect their villages. At present, Kashipally Kala Bhairava idol is visible on village’s outskirts while other idols are not found, he said. After visiting Kala Bhairava, devotees got good results, he said.

How to reach

By train

Kamareddy from Secunderabad (SC) or Kacheguda (KCG). The train from Secunderabad to Kamareddy takes approximately 2 hours 15 minutes.

By road

Ramareddy bus stand is 750 metres from the temple. Kamareddy is 54 km from Nizamabad, 55 km from Sircilla and 15 km from Kamareddy.
