A gang of five chain snatchers who operated across Hyderabad were arrested by the RC Puram police in collaboration with the Madhapur Central Crime Station. The arrested were identified as Upadi Bolenath, Abdul Mannan, Mohammed Khadeer, Kamble Sikander and Uppada Sunil, all from Hyderabad. Two other suspects, Kamble Sikander alias Heera and Makkan Kasab alias Makhan, are on the run.
The arrests, which took place around 8 p.m. on Saturday at Diamond Point in RC Puram, comes as a major success in tackling a string of thefts targeting bus passengers. The breakthrough came after one incident was reported by one Anishetty Srinivas Rao (56) on November 25. He said a gold chain weighing 1.7 tolas was snatched from his neck while he was boarding a bus near CMR Shopping Mall in RC Puram.
The accused have a long history of criminal activities and have been linked to 30 cases of chain-snatching across various police jurisdictions, including RC Puram, Miyapur, Raidurgam, Humayun Nagar, Chandanagar, KPHB, Film Nagar, Madhapur and Banjara Hills. The police said the accused primarily targeted bus passengers, employing speed and precision to thieve and flee.
