The Indian Consulate in Chicago has expressed profound grief over the tragic killing of Nukarapu Sai Teja, a 23-year-old student from Khammam, Telangana, who was fatally shot outside a store in Chicago. The consulate extended its condolences to Teja’s family and called for swift action from local law enforcement to ensure justice.

Sai Teja’s uncle, Talluri Srujan, stated that the 23-year-old was killed during a robbery attempt by two African American suspects at 6 pm local time.
“At his usual time, Teja went to the store. When he was at the cash counter, some dacoits entered the store and demanded money. Sai Teja handed over the money, but they were not satisfied… They took the cash and shot Sai Teja outside the store,” he added.
Sai Teja, an Indian student from Hyderabad, was fatally shot in Chicago at 6 pm local time. He had travelled to the US on June 15 to pursue an MBA at Concordia University after completing his BBA in Hyderabad and had taken up a part-time job in Chicago. The tragic incident has deeply saddened his friends and family, as reported by ANI.

This incident follows the death of Aryan Reddy, another Indian student from Telangana, who died in Atlanta due to an accidental gun misfire during his birthday celebration. Reddy, a second-year Master of Science student at Kansas State University, was fatally injured while attempting to clean the gun. Both incidents highlight the concerning safety issues faced by international students in the US.
