The sensational murder of a hizra leader in Kodavalur police limits of SPSR Nellore district recently was attributed to the attempts of one-upmanship and control between two groups of transgenders.
Cracking the murder case, Superintendent of Police G. Krishnakanth presented the arrested accused before the media on Sunday (December 1, 2024). As many as 12 of the 15 persons accused in the case have been nabbed.
It may be recalled that the hizra leader Manikala Hasini was brutally stabbed to death by an armed group near Tapathopu underbridge in Kodavalur, when she was returning from a temple in Parlapalli of Vidavalur mandal on November 26, 2024.
Hasini was known to be a hizra community leader for South Coastal Rayalaseema, but wielded enough influence in Raichur, Chikmagalur, Ballari, Dharwad and Hubli regions of Karnataka. She had a running feud with Alekhya, another transgender leader, allegedly for territorial dominance. Both of them had cases registered against each other in several police stations of Tirupati and Nellore districts.
Alekhya, along with fellow transgender leaders Sulochana and Sheela, offered Supari (contract) to Bhupathi for killing Hasini. The police officials arrested the main accused Vamsi Krishna alias Nani and the contract killer Bhupathi, apart from 10 others involved in the offence, when they were travelling in two cars under Kovur bridge.
Mr. Krishnakanth appreciated Deputy Superintendent Ghattamaneni Srinivasa Rao (Nellore Rural) and his team for busting the case.
