Thousands come together for Vizag Marathon

The Vizag Runners Society, in association with Sandhya Marines, organised the third edition of the Vizag Marathon on the Beach Road here on Sunday.

The event witnessed thousands of participants from across the country, as well as local residents, who participated in four categories: 21k, 10k, 5k, and 3k. The Society promoted the themes of ‘Eco Vizag’ and ‘Drug Free Vizag’ in collaboration with the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) and the Police department.

Reserve Bank of India officials attended the event to create awareness about ₹10 coins and distributed mementos to the organisers and selected participants. The marathon commenced at 4 a.m. and continued until 9 a.m., with the police department ensuring traffic control and participant safety. Organisers also provided volunteers, doctors, and ambulances for immediate medical services.

Winners in various categories were awarded cash prizes and trophies worth over ₹5 lakh. The winners in the 21k category were MSJ Veda Vyas in the Men’s category and Navya Vadde in the Women’s category. The winners in the 10k category were Yogendra Yadav in Men’s and Mery Grace Lanka in Women’s.
