The State government on Monday (December 2, 2024) approved the first phases of the Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada metro rail projects, the total cost of which is estimated at ₹11,498 crore and ₹11,009 crore respectively.
A.P. Metro Rail Corporation Limited MD N.P. Ramakrishna Reddy told The Hindu that the Phase-I of Vizag metro project would have three corridors namely Steel Plant Gate to Kommadi Junction, Gurudwara to Old Post Office and Thatichetlapalem to China Waltair measuring 34.40 km, 5.07 km and 6.75 km totalling 46.23 km with 29, 6 and 7 stations respectively. The project’s total land area was 99.75 acres costing ₹882 crore.
The Vijayawada metro rail project would have two corridors: Gannavaram to Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) and PNBS to Penamaluru. Their total length would be 38.40 km (25.95 km and 12.45 km) and the number of stations 34. The total land required is 91 acres costing ₹1,152 crore.
