Warangal: The state government is gearing up to establish five new municipalities by converting five major gram panchayats in the erstwhile united Warangal district. These will be in addition to already existing nine municipalities along with the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation.
The five new municipalities are Atmakur in Hanamkonda district, Nekkonda in Warangal district, Kesamudram in Mahabubabad district, Station Ghanpur in Jangaon district and Mulugu in Mulugu district.
This is a part of the Congress government’s focus on urbanisation. Themunicipal department has already taken proposals and objections from the MLAs and other public representatives, and conducted a referendum in the villages.
A few days ago, the officials submitted a report recommending the formation of five new municipalities based on people’s opinion in the proposed municipalities.
While there is a possibility of new municipalities coming into existence after the officials receive the orders from the government, some people are reluctant to allow their villages to become a part of new municipalities.
