Honour killing? Brother hacks Telangana woman constable to death

HYDERABAD:

In a case of suspected ‘honour killing‘, a 29-year-old woman constable of Hayathnagar police station in Hyderabad was hacked to death by her brother in Ibrahimpatnam area on Monday. Police said it appeared to be a case of ‘honour killing’.
The constable, a divorcee, was from a BC community and had recently married a man from the SC community from the same village against her brother’s wishes. Their parents had passed away some time back.
Kongara Nagamani, a constable from 2020 batch, was on her way to report to work at the police station when she was attacked on the road around 8.45 am. She died on the spot, police said.
Her brother, Parmesh, a farmer, went to the Ibrahimpatnam police station immediately afterwards and surrendered. He allegedly confessed to Nagamani’s murder.
“Nagamani lived at Raipole village in Ibrahimpatnam. On Monday morning, while she was going on a two-wheeler to her police station, a car hit the bike at Raipole junction and she fell down,” inspector at Ibrahimpatnam police station B Satyanarayana said.
The car was being driven by her brother Parmesh who got down and attacked her with a knife, the inspector said. “Nagamani was a divorcee. It was a month ago that she married Srikanth, who is an SC, despite opposition from Parmesh. Their parents are dead. Parmesh had earlier warned her that she would not be entitled to the one-acre family land she was supposed to get as her share,” ACP KVP Raju said.
Police said that they have recovered the knife used by the accused and were in the process of gathering evidence from the crime scene. A case of murder has been booked against Parmesh.
