The annual Margasira Masotsavam will begin at Sri Kanaka Mahalakshmi Ammavari Devasthanam at Burujupeta here on Monday (December 2). The masotsavam attracts an estimated six lakh devotees from across north coastal Andhra Pradesh, who come to seek the blessings of Goddess Kanaka Mahalakshmi. On Thursdays alone, nearly 10,000 devotees are expected to take part in the special pujas, the authorities added.
The temple authorities have made all arrangements, including provision of drinking water, medical camps, and a temporary police outpost with 600 police personnel. Nearly 300 volunteers would provide services apart from 80 temple staff who would continuously serve the devotees, according to temple Executive Officer K. Sobharani.

Andhra Pradesh State Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will arrange free buses for convenience of pilgrims, from different depots including Gajuwaka, Simhachalam and Madhurawada. Authorities have also arranged free autos from the New Road Junction for disabled and mothers with infants.
The temple administration has planned a series of cultural and religious events, including a Vedic Sabha. The last day of Margasira Masotsavam will witness a Maha Annadana programme in the afternoon on December 26 at the Jagannadha Swamy temple premises, followed by Sahasra Kalasabhishekam for the Goddess with 1,008 kalasas.
The surveillance system with CCTV cameras will be installed at every possible location to keep an eye on the movement of the unscrupulous elements for the safety of the devotees. Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad, who visited the temple on Saturday, gave special instructions to them for the smooth conduct of the utsavam, Ms. Sobharani added.
