The 35th edition of the Vijayawada Book Festival will begin on January 2 at the Government Polytechnic College and continue until January 12, with over 200 stalls, said Vijayawada Book Festival Society secretary T. Manohar Naidu said at a press meet in Vijayawada on Tuesday, December 3.
Mr. Naidu said the expo would begin at 5 p.m. “This time, the venue would be named after Navajeevan Book Links’s former proprietor, late Pidikiti Ramakoteswara Rao, while the ‘Sahitya Vedika’ would be named after Eenadu Group founder, late Cherukuri Ramoji Rao and ‘Pratibha Vedika’ would be named after Tata Group former chairperson late Ratan Tata,” he said.
Giving details about the list of programmes scheduled during the 11-day expo, the members said memorial meetings would be held at 7 p.m. on the first day, and centenary celebrations of prominent writers would be organised.
On January 6, a walk will be organised for book lovers from the P.B. Siddhartha College of Arts and Sciences to the Government Polytechnic College grounds. The walk will be followed by literary programmes, the members said.
A meeting would be held to mark 75 years of ‘Maha Prasthanam’, penned by celebrated revolutionary poet Srirangam Srinivasa Rao (Sri Sri). Every day, people can talk about topics including their favourite books, the books that inspired them and the books that changed them in the 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. slot. Those interested need to give their names in advance, they said.
Programmes have been planned for students every day between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and new books would be launched during the expo, the members said.
Society honorary president B. Babji, president K. Lakshmaiah and others were present.
