Gang of four arrested for car rental scam in Hyderabad

A gang of four persons was arrested for alleged involvement in a sophisticated car rental scam and defrauding numerous car owners. A total of 21 cars, including SUVs and hatchbacks of various brands, worth approximately ₹2.5 crore, were recovered from them.

The accused, identified as Jupudi Usha, Thudumula Mallesh, Sagar Patil and Anil Jamane, were apprehended for their role in a scheme that involved renting cars under false pretences and then pledging them to others.

According to police, Usha and Mallesh duped 21 unsuspecting car owners by promising to rent their vehicles. They allegedly pledged them to Patil and Jamane, who were aware of the fraudulent scheme. The accused further rented out those vehicles, often using forged RC documents, in Bidar and Bhalki districts of Karnataka.

When the rightful owners of the cars realised the deception and approached the accused, they were met with evasive tactics and empty promises. Frustrated, the victims lodged a complaint with Raidurgam police, leading to a thorough investigation.

Special teams were formed and they tracked down the stolen vehicles and arrested the accused. Police said further investigation is under way to unravel the extent of their criminal network and potential victims.
