The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has condemned the denial of permission to its leaders from visiting the social welfare residential school at Madikonda in Hanumakonda district on Tuesday by a team of the party leaders and the arrest of about 50 party activists led by A. Rakesh Reddy.

Speaking after the arrest of BRS activists, party leader Mr. Rakesh Reddy said BRS had taken up ‘gurukulabata’ programme only to learn the problems being faced by students and take them to the government notice. But, it was unfortunate that the police had not allowed them to visit the residential school as if ‘we are anti-social elements’.

He made it clear that they had taken up the programme not for politicising the issue but to help the students since 49 students had died and another 1,500 had taken ill in the residential schools and welfare hostels since December 7 last year. He stated that the students of residential schools were staying more in hospitals than schools and sought to know why they were not being allowed to visit when everything was good as claimed by the government.

Instead of engaging the students in imparting education, the Congress government had made them guard the residential school gates to prevent visits of opposition parties.

Speaking separately, former minister G. Jagadish Reddy said by not allowing the BRS students wing (BRSV) activists to visit the residential schools the government was exposing itself indicating that something was wrong with the schools.
