Hyderabad Collector appoints 82 officers to oversee food safety concerns in hostels

In response to recent food poisoning incidents in educational institutions across Telangana, Hyderabad District Collector Anudeep Durishetty has appointed 82 special officers to oversee 164 residential schools and hostels in the district. The initiative aims to prioritise sanitation and hygiene, ensuring the safety and well-being of students.

The announcement came during an inspection of the TGSWREIS Junior College for Girls in Mahendra Hills, Secunderabad, conducted by the Collector along with Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Sriganesh Narayanan on Tuesday. The Collector urged the authorities to treat hostel students as family, providing them with quality education and nutritious meals adhering to prescribed menus. Highlighting the government’s commitment to student health, both officials noted that diet charges had been increased by 40% to ensure access to better nutrition and contribute to a healthier society.

During their visit, the officials examined the college’s kitchen, storeroom, and food registers. They inspected the quality of staple items such as rice, lentils, vegetables, and spices, while also assessing the cleanliness of cooking utensils and food preparation areas. The hostel staff was instructed to maintain hygiene standards and adopt proactive measures to safeguard students’ health.
