Prithvi Shaw, a young opening batter who scored a century on his Test debut for India at the age of 19 in 2018, has reduced his chances of a comeback after registering his second duck in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
In the current SMAT T20 tournament, Shaw, who opened the innings for the Mumbai team against Services in Hyderabad, failed to make an impact as he was dismissed in the first over after facing just three deliveries from PS Poonia.
After being dropped from the Mumbai Ranji team due to fitness issues, Shaw has faced uncertainties in his career as he attempts to move forward. However, his performances in domestic cricket have not helped him build a strong case for himself.
In the four innings he has played in the SMAT 2024, Shaw has already registered two ducks, 23 runs against Kerala, and 40 runs against Nagaland.
Earlier, the 25-year-old batter went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, despite being listed with a base price of ₹75 lakh.
Prithvi Shaw’s career has been a mix of remarkable highs and challenging lows. In 2018, the ICC recognised him as one of the top five breakout stars in men’s cricket, highlighting his immense potential. However, his journey faced a setback in 2019 when he was handed a doping ban by the BCCI, sidelining him from the game until November that year.
