Visakhapatnam: A live-in couple allegedly ended their lives by jumping from the third floor of the apartment they were living in. The incident was reported at Venkateswara Colony in Sheelanagar under Gajuwaka police station limits here on Tuesday.
The deceased persons were identified as P Durga Rao (32) and Sai Susmitha (26). Both of them hailed from Amalapuram of Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district. While Durga Rao ran a catering service, Susmitha was a pharma employee. Their bodies were found at the apartment in the morning hours on Tuesday.
The preliminary investigation into the case revealed that Durga Rao and Susmitha were living together on the third floor of the apartment for the past four months. The couple jumped to death around 6 am.
Inspector of Gajuwaka police station, A Pardhasaradhi, said they visited the crime scene and from what they observed, seemed like the couple might have entered into an altercation before they took the extreme step.
“We found that the TV remote and a glass were found broken in the house. We didn’t find any suicide letter on the spot. So, we need to examine the call data of the couple,” he added.
Locals said while Durga Rao was unmarried, information about Susmitha was not known. Meanwhile, police suspect that families’ disapproval of their relationship might have been the reason for the couple’s suicide.
