Vijayawada: In order to address the increasing traffic congestion in Vijayawada, NTR district police introduced advanced technological solutions to monitor and manage traffic in real-time. Using live drone cameras integrated with the command control centre and the ‘Astra mobile app’, officers will now oversee traffic situations and provide immediate instructions to ground staff. This is believed to effectively reduce delays and ensure smoother commutes.
Speaking at a coordination meeting with traffic police and newly designated traffic ambassadors in Vijayawada, commissioner of police, S V Rajashekara Babu, highlighted the transformative impact of these measures.
“By leveraging technology like the Astra app, we significantly reduced traffic disruptions in Nov as compared with Oct. This real-time monitoring system enables swift action to resolve breakdowns, accidents, or blockages caused by rallies, protests, or natural calamities,” he said.
The commissioner of police also emphasised the importance of public participation in these efforts, noting that traffic ambassadors, who are some responsible residents from various professions, play a crucial role by reporting issues via WhatsApp or phone.
“Your small action can save lives, ensure timely medical care, and help others reach their destinations without unnecessary delays,” he added.
As part of their road safety initiatives, district police also organised a bike rally in Jaggayyapet to raise awareness about the importance of helmet usage. Approximately, 250 motorcyclists participated in the rally, which was flagged off by Nandigama ACP A B G Tilak and Jaggayyapet inspector P Venkateswarlu. The rally covered prominent areas, including Paatagadda, Balusupadu Centre, NTR Circle, Kodada Road, and Kamala theatre, spreading the message of safe driving.
Addressing participants during the rally, ACP Tilak underscored that a majority of fatalities in road accidents involve two-wheeler riders, and not wearing helmets while driving is a leading cause. He urged young riders to adopt safe driving practices, stressing that helmets are lifesaving equipments, not mere accessories.
In a creative and positive gesture, police officers distributed roses to riders found without helmets, encouraging them to embrace safety measures for their own protection.
