China’s BYD has filed design patents for two new products in India. As per the government’s patents, design, and trademarks database, BYD has patented the Bao 3 and Bao 9. The BYD Bao 3 is an electric SUV with a rugged design based on the Super 3 concept. It features an upright front fascia with LED headlights, chunky wheel arches, and retractable door handles. The Bao 3 measures over 4.6 meters long and weighs over 2 tonnes. It is powered by dual electric motors – one on each axle, with a combined output of 444 BHP. The SUV can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 201 km/h. It uses BYD’s Blade batteries. The Bao 9 is an open-top pure-electric speedster. The 2-seater is based on the Super 9 electric concept and features a dual-cockpit design with carbon fibre seats and a flat-bottom racing-style steering wheel. BYD will be showcasing its products at the Bharat Mobility Expo in January 2025. It’s unclear if the Bao 3 and Bao 9 will also be presented at the event.
