VISAKHAPATNAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) will organise online quiz competitions, National Meteorological Olympiad (on weather and climate science for society), for school children of Class VII, IX and Class XI as part of the 150th year celebrations of IMD, on December 14 and 15.
Director of IMD- Amaravati, Stella S said the online competitions will be held in the State and the national-level, and winners in the competitions will get a chance to visit New Delhi and participate in the celebrations on Jan 15, 2025. Registration for the Olympiad will close on December 10.
No fee is required for participation, interested students can visit the IMD website for syllabus, study materials and sample questions for the online competitions
The online state-level test will consist of 60 multiple-choice questions to be answered within one hour. The winners (top three) in the state-levels competitions from each class will compete at the national level competition.
Cash prizes will be awarded to winners at both the state and national levels. The IMD mentioned that the state-level winners will receive Rs 5,000 for the first position, Rs 3,000 for the second and Rs 2,000 for the third.
Similarly, national-level winners will be awarded Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 for the first, second, and third positions, respectively.
