Details are emerging from India’s open nets session ahead of Adelaide Test against Australia with a report claiming that one of the visiting side’s cricketers was allegedly “body-shamed” while others were heckled for missing deliveries or getting out. India captain Rohit Sharma and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant were badgered to hit sixes as 3000 fans unleashed “chaos” forcing the team to ban them from their training sessions for the remainder of the Australia tour.

“It was complete chaos. During the Australian training session, not more than 70-odd people turned up but during India’s session, 3000 came. No one expected so many fans to turn up,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

“There was another fans’ day in Sydney (ahead of the fifth Test) which stands cancelled as players were very disturbed by the rude and insensitive comments that were passed (here),” the source added.

There was danger of fan favourite Virat Kohli and rising star Shubman Gill being mobbed by people and few of them kept talking loudly even as the batters took stance.

“Virat (Kohli) and Shubman Gill could have been mobbed because of so many people. Some were doing Facebook live with friends and talking loudly just as the batter took stance,” the source claimed.

“One supporter continuously urged a player to say ‘hi’ to him in Gujarati. Another particular cricketer was body-shamed,” the source added.

The behaviour from the fans resulted in BCCI having a discussion with Cricket Australia to allow them to practice behind closed doors to avoid distractions.

Fans are generally allowed to enter venues on practice days in Australia.

India cricketer KL Rahul admitted on Wednesday that having a practice session with crowds watching ahead of a Test felt “little different”.

The second Test between India and Australia is slated to be held at the Adelaide Oval from Friday.
