We not only observed the majestic big cats but also their adorable cubs. We also witnessed cheetahs hunting twice.
BHPia mysticism recently shared this with other enthusiasts:
Since I was a kid, National Geographic, Discovery, and BBC have been my go-to sources for exploring flora and fauna of the wild and marveling at the natural wonders of the Earth. This early fascination instilled in me an inherent wish to witness these wonders in real life. Later, when I discovered that Masai Mara, Kenya, is where much of this magic unfolds, it immediately shot to the top of my bucket list.
After many years of waiting, my wife and I (she, too, has now grown passionate about wildlife) finally planned our trip for this September, starting from Bangalore.
Itinerary:
- Route: Bangalore – Mumbai – Nairobi and back via the same route (Indigo Airlines).
- Accommodation: A one-day extra stay at an Airbnb near Nairobi Airport, both before and after the road trip to Masai Mara.
Trip Timelines:
- Arrival in Nairobi: We landed early in the morning. Immigration took about 45 minutes.
- Sim Card Setup: The biggest wait was the line at the airport for a Safaricom SIM card (which works best in remote areas). This process took an additional 40 minutes.
- First Day: Checked into our Airbnb and rested for the day.
- Next Day: Our cab was ready for the road trip to Masai Mara.
- Masai Mara: For the next five days, we were immersed in safaris from before sunrise to after sunset.
- Accommodation in Masai Mara: We stayed inside the Mara Reserve, right next to the Mara River.
Booking:
We booked the entire trip through Nature Wanderers, a group we’ve traveled with for other wildlife destinations. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a seamless and enriching wildlife experience.
Reflections:
Words cannot do justice to the serenity of Masai Mara. The wait, the anticipation, and the magical moments in the wild summed up to an experience of a lifetime.
Highlights:
- Witnessed all the Big Cats.
- Saw cheetahs hunting twice.
- Spotted all the Big Five.
- Observed not just the majestic big cats but also their adorable cubs.
Sharing some pictures because they capture the essence of our journey far better than words ever could.
