WARANGAL: The state government will distribute double bedroom houses under the Indiramma Housing Scheme to beneficiaries in the heart of the Hanamkonda city near Sridevi Asian Mall and in New Shayampet areas by Sankranti.
Construction of houses in Warangal district is over while work is halfway through at oher places. Near Sridevi Asian Mall, 594 double bedroom houses were constructed split into 57 blocks with 10 houses in each block while 600 houses were built in New Shayampet on Hunter Road.
Construction of 594 houses near Asian mall was completed five years back whereas 20 per cent work is still pending at New Shayampet.
BRS leaders, acting as middlemen, allegedly collected huge amounts from the poor and middle-class people assuring them 2BHK houses. They collected money ranging from Rs 20,000 to Rs 2 lakh from 15,000 people.
In several cases, people who gave money to BRS leaders and poor families who live in huts near 2BHK houses tried to occupy the houses by breaking locks, alleging that BRS leaders collected money from them but are not allocating houses to them.
At a review meeting, Warangal West Congress MLA Naini Rajendar Reddy said without giving any scope for irregularities, 40 each from 26 divisions in the constituency, 2BHK houses will be distributed in a transparent manner.
For this purpose, 26 special officers were appointed to identify beneficiaries from each division so that they can be allotted 2BHK houses through a lottery system.
Meanwhile, people living in temporary shelters in Ambedkar and Jawahar Nagar colonies alleged that they vacated their houses in 2015 and gave their land to BRS government, expecting 2BHK houses will be allotted to them within one year.
But the BRS government betrayed them. Now Congress leaders are saying they will allot only 40 houses in each division. Now the question is where the remaining 160 poor families who gave their land to government should go.
They urged the Congress to distribute houses to all 200 members who parted with their land.
