Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh govt signed an agreement with Google on Thursday to advance the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and provide skill development opportunities to youth in the state. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed at the secretariat in the presence of IT minister Nara Lokesh and Google Maps India general manager Lalitha Ramani. Google Cloud India vice-president Bikram Singh Bedi and AP Real-Time Governance secretary Suresh Kumar exchanged the MoUs.
As part of the agreement, Google will offer training programs in schools and colleges across AP to prepare students for careers in AI-related fields. The training will also support startups, traditional industries, and small businesses in adopting AI tools. Google will assist the govt in integrating AI and machine learning (ML) solutions in sectors such as healthcare and environmental sustainability.
Google will also help provide resources to equip youth with skills needed for the evolving digital economy, cloud certifications and skill badges in areas such as cybersecurity, data analytics, and generative AI, apart from training students and educators. The MoU also outlines a joint effort to build a startup ecosystem focused on AI technologies to assist in addressing issues like air quality, urban planning, and disaster management through AI-based services to achieve sustainable development goals.
“Our goal is to enhance the ease of living for citizens by providing accessible services through digital platforms, including mobile phones,” Lokesh said. He expressed satisfaction with the partnership and noted that AI-based services could improve public sector operations. The state govt is aiming at developing a strong startup ecosystem, supporting the startups, and giving the benefits of AI to people with this MoU, he added.
Ramani said the agreement supports the vision of chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to improve public services through AI in governance.
“The programs will lay the foundation for services that will benefit the society,” she added.
