Former Minister and senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA T. Harish Rao was detained and taken into custody on Thursday (December 5, 2024) from the Kondapur residence of BRS Huzurabad legislator Padi Kaushik Reddy. He was taken to the Gachibowli police station following the incident.

Mr. Rao was detained after he attempted to meet Mr. Reddy, who was booked by the Banjara Hills police for obstruction of police duty, criminal intimidation, wrongful restraint among other charges on Wednesday (December 4, 2024). Mr. Rao arrived at Mr. Reddy’s residence on Thursday morning but was blocked by police personnel deployed in large numbers at his residence.

Tensions escalated when the police refused to allow Mr. Rao to meet the Huzurabad MLA and instead escorted him away. This led to a heated exchange between Mr. Rao and the police, culminating in his detention. Supporters of the BRS leader tried unsuccessfully to block the police vehicle transporting him and raised slogans against the State government accusing them of engaging in vendetta politics.

After Mr. Rao, former Minister and Suryapet MLA G. Jagadish Reddy was also detained by the police.

The sequence of events leading to a case against Mr. Kaushik Reddy began on Wednesday after he reached Banjara Hills police station to file a complaint against the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, alleging illegal phone tapping. A confrontation ensued between Mr. Kaushik Reddy and the Station House Officer, who reportedly attempted to leave without registering the complaint. Following the altercation, the police filed a case against Mr. Kaushik Reddy for allegedly obstructing a police officer from performing their duties.
