Whether you are a marine life enthusiast, Nature lover, or simply someone who appreciates stunning photography, this calendar promises to be a meaningful addition to your desk while supporting a crucial cause. The East Coast Conservation Team (ECCT), a group dedicated to the study and preservation of marine biodiversity along Visakhapatnam’s coastline, has launched a unique marine life-themed table-top calendar for 2025. This artistic and educational endeavour features striking images of marine species commonly found in the tidal zones of the Visakhapatnam coast.

The 8×5 inches table top calendar brings to life a vibrant underwater world with species like zoanthids, nudibranchs, electric blue hermit crabs, and the recently documented polyclad flatworm, which is a new record from the region. Other highlights include the combtooth blenny, known for its charismatic appearance, and the elusive sea dragons, whose eye-catching features have always intrigued marine enthusiasts.

The photographs have been skilfully captured by passionate photographers Sri Chakra Pranav Tamarapalli, founder of ECCT, and Manish Manick. Most of the images were taken by Pranav, who used the waterproof Olympus TG6 camera to document these incredible creatures. “The TG6 camera allowed us to capture intricate details of these marine species in their natural habitat, even in challenging underwater conditions,” shares Pranav.

This calendar is more than a visual treat. It represents the culmination of years of documentation work by ECCT, which has catalogued over 300 marine species from Visakhapatnam. The calendar aims to raise awareness about the rich marine biodiversity that thrives just beneath the waves, urging people to appreciate and protect these often-overlooked ecosystems.

Each month showcases a different species, accompanied by a brief description of its habitat, behaviour, and ecological significance. For instance, the polyclad flatworm, a new discovery for the area, highlights the continuing need for exploration and documentation. The electric blue hermit crab, with its vibrant hues, emphasises the sheer diversity of life in the intertidal zones.

The ECCT team hopes this calendar will inspire citizens to take an active role in marine conservation. “Our coastline is home to a hidden treasure trove of biodiversity,” says Pranav and adds: “Through this calendar, we want to spark curiosity and foster a sense of stewardship among the people of Visakhapatnam.”

The 2025 marine life calendar is available on advance orders. Proceeds from the sales will go toward ECCT’s ongoing research and conservation projects.
