Visakhapatnam: The mystery of the drug container case was finally resolved as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted a report to the court stating that there were no drugs in the container that was seized eight months and 15 days ago, with suspicion of it containing 25,000 kg of dry yeast mixed with drugs.
The CBI authorities filed a closure report of the case in the court of metropolitan session judge-cum-ADJ in Visakhapatnam and instructed the customs officials at the port to release container ‘SEKU4375380.’
Following the orders, the customs officials released the container.
It is recalled that following leads from Interpol, CBI officials from Delhi, with the assistance of the local CBI officials in the port city, had seized a container suspected to have narcotic drugs mixed with inactive dry yeast of around 25,000 kg at Vizag container terminal on March 21 this year, in an operation called ‘Garuda.’
The container was kept in the Vizag container terminal private limited (VCTPL) under the custody of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawans, who guarded the container round the clock to date.
