Hyderabad: The year saw multinational giants such as FedEx, ZF Lifetec, and Marriott choose Telangana for setting up their global capability centres (GCCs). Others like the London Stock Exchange Group, Arcesium, Uber, and Micron Technology ramped up their investments in the state, Telangana IT & industries minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu said.
Giving the one-year report card for the IT industry, he said US-based hospitality giant Marriott zeroed in on Hyderabad for its first-ever GCC, starting with 300 employees. US-based logistics giant FedEx set up its advanced capability community in December 2023 with an investment of $100 million and plans to hire 1,000 people.
German automotive safety and innovation giant ZF Lifetec also set up its global R&D centre in Hyderabad with plans to hire 450 engineers. On the other hand, the LSE Group set up its tech centre of excellence in January 2024, starting with 300 techies and plans to expand to 1,000 people. Chip maker Micron beefed up its Hyderabad team to over 4,500 engineers, and IT services giant Cognizant opened a new office with a capacity to hire an additional 15,000 techies.While Uber continues to grow its largest GCC in Hyderabad with 1,000 employees in AI & ML, fintech major Arcesium decided to house its first overseas GCC in Hyderabad with plans to hire 500 people in its AI and data strategy teams.
He said the year also saw the govt ink over 20 MoUs with global giants such as NVIDIA, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and Meta, as well as Indian players such as Yotta and C-DAC, for setting up compute infrastructure, skilling, and citizen services at Telangana Global AI Summit held in early September.
The govt also unveiled a 200-acre AI city project to position Hyderabad and Telangana as the AI capital of the world. He said the electronics wing of the ITE&C department facilitated investments of over 6,000 crore with a potential to create around 5,200 jobs during the year including Amara Raja Energy & Mobility’s lithium-ion gigafactory that opened its first phase in August this year.
