Three-day national athletics meet for road transport employees begins in Visakhapatnam

A national-level athletics meet for employees of various State transport organisations in the country, being organised by the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU), under the aegis of AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), was inaugurated by APS RTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana at the Police Parade Ground at Kailasagiri here on Friday.

RTC MD, DGP and ASRTU vice president Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, Visakha Range DIG Gopinath Jetty, and Visakhapatnam District Public Transportation Officer B. Appala Naidu were present at the inaugural function. Employees of 19 State transport corporations are participating in the three-day event.

ASRTU Executive Director T. Surya Kiran said that the national-level sports competitions were being held after a gap of nearly four decades. They were being held in Visakhapatnam on the suggestion of V-C and MD Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, he said.

The RTC Chairman said that the competitions would foster the spirit of brotherhood among the employees of different State Transport Undertakings in the country. He called upon all the participants to take both victory and defeat with the same spirit.

Mr. Tirumala Rao, who is also the A.P. DGP, expressed satisfaction over 127 women employees participating in the competitions. He commended RTC drivers and conductors for performing their duties with utmost devotion in transporting commuters to their destinations. He said that events like these would give a break to the employees from their routine tasks. He extended his best wishes to all the participating teams.

Vizinagaram Zonal Chairman Donnu Dora also spoke.

Later, the RTC Chairman and the VC & MD presented medals to NWRTC employee A.R. Chandrasekhar, who bagged the first place, and Uttarakhand Transport Corporation employee Amit Saini, who secured the second place in the 800 m men’s race.
