Vehicle strength in Telangana rise by nearly 137% in the last 10 years

The number of four-wheelers increased from 8,84,870 in 2014 to 22,80,687 in 2024, marking a staggering 157.74% rise.

Over the past 10 years, Telangana saw a sharp rise in the number of vehicles, with the total, across vehicle categories, increasing from 71,52,803 in June 2014 to 1,69,50,414 as of October 31, 2024 – a growth of 136.98%.

The surge was particularly significant in the categories of four-wheelers and two-wheelers, excluding motor cabs. The number of four-wheelers increased from 8,84,870 in 2014 to 22,80,687 in 2024, marking a staggering 157.74% rise. Similarly, two-wheelers grew from 52,99,642 in 2014 to 1,24,58,272 in 2024, indicating an increase of around 135%.

Motor cabs also registered notable growth, with their numbers rising from 49,487 in 2014 to 1,39,409 in 2024.

Meanwhile, autorickshaws saw a significant rise, increasing from 2,36,531 in 2014 to 5,03,262 in 2024 – an increase of 112.79%.

Officials in the recent past attributed theincreasing traffic woes across Hyderabad to the steep rise in the number of vehicles – pegged at 1,500 new vehicles each day.

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C. V. Anand underscored that adding to traffic issues were footpaths being encroached, indiscriminate parking by autorickshaws, a lack of bus bays, and bus stops being on the road.
