HYDERABAD: In a fitting gift to the Bharat Rastra Samithi (BRS) on Telangana Formation Day, BRS MLC candidate Naveen Kumar Reddy emerged victorious in the Mahabubnagar local bodies constituency MLC by-election. Reddy won the election with 108 votes, securing his seat against competitors Manne Jeevan Reddy of the Congress and independent candidate Sudarshan.
The vote counting process commenced at 8 AM on Sunday at the Local Government Boys Junior College in Mahabubnagar. Out of 1,439 registered voters in the constituency, an impressive 1,437 cast their votes. The election authorities organized the counting across five tables: four tables handled 300 votes each, while the fifth table managed the remaining 237 votes. This by-election was necessitated by the vacancy left by Kasireddy Narayana Reddy, the former MLC of Mahabubnagar local bodies, who was elected as an MLA from the Kalwakurthi constituency on behalf of the Congress. Although the polling took place on March 28, the counting was delayed due to the ongoing general elections, with the results being finalized today.
Naveen Kumar Reddy’s victory comes as a significant reprieve for the BRS, especially in light of unfavorable exit poll results for the party in the Telangana Lok Sabha elections.
