Eluru Collector Vetriselvi K. donned the role of a mother for the students of government-run Bala Sadan during the parent-teacher meeting on Saturday.
Ms. Vetriselvi walked into the Bala Sadan, asked the students to get ready for classes and accompanied them to Zilla Parishad Girls High School, Denduluru, where the officials organised the parent-teacher meeting.
The Collector had breakfast along with the girls and took them to the meeting in her official vehicle. En route she asked the students about the facilities and the problems.
Ms. Vetriselvi, who sat in the parents’ gallery, asked the teachers about the performance of the children. She took the progress report of each student and verified the marks they secured in each subject.
“I request the teachers to focus on environmental science,” said Ms. Vetriselvi and took the opinion of the teachers about the performance of each student.
District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) Ch. Suryachakra Veni and Bala Sadan Superintendent Baby Sarojini explained that 17 girls of the government-run facility were studying in the ZP Girls High School.
“The Collector came to our home (Bala Sadan) at 8 a.m. and spent time with us. Later, she took us to the meeting in her vehicle and spoke to the teachers as our mother,” said a girl student.
“Students who were rescued in different cases and referred to Bala Sadan are studying in the ZP Girls High School at Denduluru. The performance of the students is good,” Ms. Suryachakra Veni said.
