Hyderabad: A local court in Kodangal granted the Vikarabad police’s request for a two-day custodial interrogation of former Kodangal MLA Patnam Narender Reddy in connection with the attack on Vikarabad collector and other govt officials during a public hearing on land acquisition for an SEZ at Lagacherla. The police had initially sought five days of custody for Narender Reddy.
However, his lawyer, Jakkula Laxman, opposed the request, arguing that the allegations against his client were false. The police argued that Narender Reddy’s custody was necessary to investigate the conspiracy behind the violence. After hearing both sides, the court allowed the two-day custodial interrogation but imposed conditions, including that Narender Reddy be allowed to have legal counsel during the interrogation.
The custody begins on Saturday and will end on Monday morning. On November 11, during a public hearing on land acquisition, protesters attacked the collector and other officials.
