Seven Telangana district were sanctioned a Navodaya Vidyalaya out of the 28 schools approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to be set up in the uncovered districts of the country under the Navodaya Vidyalaya Scheme (Central Sector Scheme).

The seven districts which would get Navodaya Vidyalayas are Jagital, Nizamabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Medchal Malkajgiri, Mahabubnagar, Sangareddy and Suryapet.

“The NVs are fully residential, co-educational schools providing good quality modern education from Class VI to XII to the talented children, predominantly from the rural areas without regard to their family’s socio-economic condition.  Admissions to these schools are done on the basis of a Selection Test,” as per a press release issued on Friday (December 6, 2024).

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka submitted a representation to the Prime Minister on July 4, 2024, urging the allocation of 24 NVs to Telangana, as per a communication from the State government

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy posted the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) stating that “this will provide quality education opportunities to students in rural and remote areas, fostering equitable growth and development”.
