Vijayawada: An 18-year-old girl was brutally attacked with a knife by a man identified as Kullayappa after she turned down his persistent advances. The assault took place near V Kothpalli village in Vemula mandal of YSR Kadapa district.
According to the police, the accused Kullayappa noticed that the girl was alone in her house. He entered the house and pressurised her to accept his love proposal. Upon her refusal, he violently attacked her with a knife and escaped from the spot.
The victim’s relatives and neighbours, alerted by her hue and cry, rushed the victim to Pulivendula govt hospital. Her severe condition necessitated transfers, first to a private facility and subsequently to Kadapa RIMS for specialised care. Doctors confirmed she sustained 13 stab wounds and is currently in a critical state.
The victim, a degree college student, had consistently rejected Kullayappa’s advances previously. Her family revealed that Kullayappa, who has a reputation for disruptive behaviour in the village, had been constantly harassing her. Police registered a case and are investigating. A search operation is underway to nab the accused, who remains at large.
