Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath asked the officials concerned to ensure quality in the repair works pertaining to protected water schemes in the district.
Bharath attended the Zilla Parishad (ZP) meeting of undivided Kurnool district, held in Kurnool town, under the leadership of ZP chairperson E. Papireddy on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bharath asked the Rural Water Supply (RWS) officials as to how they could maintain quality if tenders were called at a 30-40 percent lesser rate.
During the meeting, Adoni MLA Dr. K. Pardhasaradhi raised the issue of water pipelines and sewer lines running parallelly in Samballu village in Adoni mandal. Responding to this, Mr. Bharath said that there is a possibility of spread of diarrhoea and water-borne diseases if the pipelines run parallelly and instructed the officials to address the issue before the next ZP meeting. He asked RWS officials if there were similar issues in any other village and asked them to rectify it.
Dr. Pardhasaradhi said that the Centre has deposited funds worth ₹3.52 crore in the accounts of sarpanches after the NDA government was formed in the State. He said 30 percent of these funds should be spent on works related to supply of drinking water and another 30 percent for sanitation in villages. However, the sarpanches are not utilising the money for these works, but depositing them for the works done in the previous regime. He asked the district administration to ensure that the Central funds are utilised and not diverted.
Dr. Pardhasaradhi also raised the issue of absence of a 220 kv sub-station in Adoni, which has forced officials to supply power to Adoni, Mantralayam, Aluru and Yemmiganuru from Kurnool. This has led to power fluctuations, causing damage to motors used for agriculture. Though land has been sanctioned for setting up a sub-station at Banavasi, the works have not started yet, MLA added. He also sought the reasons from the Electricity Department officials for the delay in the start of works.
ZP Chairperson Papireddy asked the RWS, Panchayat Raj, and Electricity Department officials to resolve the issues raised by the members.
Meanwhile. District Collector P. Ranjith Basha asked the officials to prepare estimate of the damaged roads that needed repair. Mr. Ranjith Basha also asked the officials to remove the electricity wires passing over a temple in Kandukur village in Kosigi mandal.
