Warangal:The Mattewada police cracked the murder of a retired bank manager and nabbed the killer. The police also seized four and a half tola gold ornaments and a mobile phone from his possession in Hanamkonda on Saturday.
Unidentified people killed the retired bank manager and left him in the back seat of the car with his legs and hands tied with ropes. The car was deserted at Rangampet opposite Kakatiya Medical College in Hanamkonda on December 2.
Disclosing the facts to media, CI T. Gopi said that the accused was identified as Jakkula Srinivas Rao, 45, a native of Komatipally village of Mangapet mandal in Mulugu district.
Srinivas was living in Pragathi Nagar of Revenue Colony. Earlier, he worked as a You-Tuber and made his living by blackmailing various persons.
Two months back, he got a mobile phone belonging to the deceased identified as Veligeti Rajmohan, 62, a resident of Srinagar colony in Hanamkonda city.
When Srinivas contacted Rajmohan to hand over his phone, both got introduced to each other. In the meantime, Rajmohan informed Srinivas that he was living alone and is interested in marrying a widow and asked Srinivas to help him.
Taking this as an advantage, Srinivas moved very closely with Rajmohan for over two months and asked him to help by giving Rs 5 lakh as loan. When Rajmohan refused to give money, Srinivas decided to kill him and rob the gold.
He executed his plan on December 2 by thrashing him with a wooden pestle (Rokali Bandi) after making him drink alcohol in his residence in Pragathi Nagar and looted gold ornaments. Later, he tried to dispose the body at various locations and finally dumped it at Rangampet opposite KMC.
Receiving the complaint from Raj Gopal, the elder brother of Rajmohan, the police deployed four teams under the supervision of ACP Nandiram Naik and checked the footage of around 1,000 CCTV cameras at various locations, nabbed the accused person Srinivas Rao and sent him for remand.
