Hyderabad: As many as 127 undergraduate students were caught cheating in the Kakatiya University (KU) degree examinations. The students were not allowed to write the exam in which they were caught indulging in malpractice.
“A committee at the varsity level will take a call at a later stage on whether or not to debar these students from further exams, depending on the level of cheating,” said KU vice-chancellor K Pratap Reddy.
He said that the students will be allowed to sit for the remaining exams, but a decision on whether or not to evaluate their papers will be taken by the committee.
Flying squads from the varsity caught several students with chits and other material at various private colleges, which are examination centres for degree exams. The controller of examination at KU, Rajender Katla, said that these cases were not booked from a single centre, but across 124 centres under the varsity jurisdiction.
“These were degree first and third-year students. They were caught either by flying squads or observers at the centre,” he added and said that on any exam day, about 10 to 20 students are caught. However, depending on the subject and difficulty level of exams, more students are caught on certain exam days.
He added that students caught with chits or other printed materials are booked by the varsity in a malpractice case, while others are normally let off with a warning.
