President Murmu to Attend AIIMS Mangalagiri’s Inaugural Convocation | Vijayawada News

Vijayawada: President Droupadi Murmu is likely to attend the first convocation of AIIMS, Mangalagiri, on Dec 17.
The state govt has asked senior officials to make foolproof arrangements for the President’s visit.
A decade-long journey of AIIMS, Mangalagiri has many twists and turns right from launching of classes at temporary campus in Vijayawada city. The Centre granted AIIMS to the state in 2015 as part of promise made in the AP Reorganisation Act.
The state govt allocated nearly 180 acres of land near Mangalagiri for the premier healthcare institute. Although, the works on the new project commenced in 2016, delay in formation of roads and completion of other basic infrastructure works have delayed the entire project.
It took several months for the AIIMS authorities to get clearances from several agencies including forest, environment and National Highways as the land granted to AIIMS was located within the identified reserve forest.
Keeping in view of the expected delay in completion of the project, AIIMS commenced the admissions of its first batch of MBBS with 50 students in 2018-19 by launching the college from makeshift campus in Siddartha Medical College. AIIMS started out-patient wing in March in the permanent campus at Mangalagiri. There after AIIMS gradually moved into its designated campus as newly constructed buildings. During the COVID-19 pandemic, OPD services were supplemented with eParamarsh initiative for doorstep sample collection.
AIIMS has also extended inpatient services to a limited number of positive infected people during the covid and it was thrown open to the public with inpatient services in 2021.
Interestingly, AIIMS seat strength was increased to 125 by 2020 batch which stated attending their academics in Mangalagiri campus.
“Education of diverse health professionals, research in biomedical sciences and patient care at the highest care level is our mission,” said AIIMS director Dr Madhabananda Kar. He explained that they would develop pattern of teaching in under-graduate and postgraduate medical education in all its branches so as to demonstrate a high standard of medical education to all medical colleges and other allied institutions in India.
He said that AIIMS is premier healthcare institute which brings together in one place educational facilities of the highest order for the training of personnel in all branches of health activities.
He said that they would attain self-sufficiency in post-graduate medical education. Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally dedicated the institution to the public in 2022.
