Several legislators of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), both MLAs and MLCs, were taken into custody by the police in front of the Telangana Assembly entrance (gate) on Monday (December 9, 2024) as the two Houses of Telangana Legislature convened as part of the winter session, following the legislators’ protest by wearing t-shirts having pictures of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and business tycoon Gautam Adani.

Legislators from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) asked the police at the Telangana Assembly why were they not allowed to wear T-shirts with photos of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and business tycoon Gautan Adani, when Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi went to Parliament wearing t-shirts with slogans of Modi-Adani bhai bhai’.

The legislators gathered at the Martyrs Memorial in front of the Assembly in the morning and paid tributes to the martyrs before proceeding towards the Assembly-Council premises. The police personnel present at the entrance did not allow the BRS legislators wearing the t-shirts with the pictures of Mr. Revanth Reddy and Mr. Adani entered the premises leading to heated arguments between the legislators and the police personnel.

Party leaders K.T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao and others argued what was wrong in wearing t-shirts with the pictures of Mr. Revanth Reddy and Mr. Adani when they (legislators) had attended the Legislature session wearing black t-shirts in the past. They stated that they wore t-shirts as a mark of protest to deplore the Congress party’s double standards of opposing Adani in Delhi and having friendship with him in ‘galli’ (in Telangana) as Rahul Gandhi was speaking against Mr. Adani, while Mr. Revanth Reddy was having business deals with the business group.

Another leader P. Sabitha Indra Reddy pointed out that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi went to Parliament with photos of Adani in their hands and also wore t-shirts with slogans of “Modi-Adani bhai bhai’ written on them and they were allowed into Parliament. She sought to know why the State Government did not allow them to register similar protests here. They sought to know what was wrong in exposing the shady deals between Mr. Revanth Reddy and Mr. Adani.

The BRS leaders also opposed the changes made to the ‘Telangana Thalli’ statue by the Congress Government by removing the symbol of Telangana culture – ‘bathukamma’ and instead having the ‘abhaya hastham’ (the hand of blessing), which also resembles the election symbol of the Congress party. They also raised slogans against the State Government. Later, the police dropped the BRS legislators at Telangana Bhavan, the party headquarters of BRS.
