Food poisoning in school hostel again: 15 students hospitalized in Vikarabad

Vikarabad: About 15 students have been hospitalized in Tandur on Tuesday due to yet another food poisoning incident in the State.
The students of ST Residential School hostel complained of uneasiness, after which the school staff shifted them to the government hospital. Students are complaining about poor sanitation in many hostels in the district, reports said.

Despite the government issuing instructions to officials to ensure quality food is served to students, incidents of food poisoning continue to occur. It may be recalled that last month, the State government had decided to constitute institution-level Food Safety Committees to oversee cooking and the food served in various institutions to prevent food contamination and food-borne diseases.

As per the orders issued by Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari, the Committee was to inspect the store room and kitchen before cooking each meal and ensure quality of provisions and hygiene in the kitchen. After the meals were prepared, committee members were directed to taste the food for quality and other factors and then the food was be served to the students.
