NTR police cracks 89 missing women, girls cases in Nov

Vijayawada: A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by NTR district commissioner of police S V Rajasekhara Babu, cracked 89 cases of missing women and girls in the NTR police commissionerate last month, with 102 cases still under investigation. Three sensitive missing cases, including one that remained unsolved for seven years, offered a glimmer of hope to families across the region.
The breakthrough cases included the missing case of a 14-year-old girl from Nidamanuru village in 2017. The girl’s family was struggling with severe financial hardships. In order to escape the pressure of work, the 14-year-old had left home. After a meticulous investigation, police traced her to in Devipatnam mandal of Alluri Seetharama Raju district. The cops found her living there with her husband and son.
In another case, a 19-year-old girl, who had fled her home in 2021 to avoid an arranged marriage, was found working at a petrol pump in Nellore’s Sri City SEZ.
The third case involved a mentally unstable young woman who had gone missing from Penugranchiprolu in April 2024. She was located in Jangareddygudem of Eluru and reunited with her family.
SIT, led by CI Chandrasekhar and sub-inspector Hymavathi under the supervision of DCP Gowtami Sali, employed advanced techniques, including CCTV footage analysis, detailed interrogations, and cross-verification of minimal leads. For the 2017 case, revisiting witnesses and tracking communications played a key role in locating the woman.
“This was a highly sensitive operation. The resolution of these cases brings immense satisfaction to our team,” said commissioner Rajasekhara Babu.
The police commissioner emphasised that these efforts were part of a larger initiative to prioritise the safety of women and girls.
“Public cooperation and immediate reporting of missing cases were urged to speed up investigations. As the SIT continues its mission, police are determined to reduce the backlog and ensure justice for the families awaiting their loved ones,” the commissioner added.
